About Me

Hi, my name's Chris Baker and I'm
the author of "Kilimanjaro: Hakuna Matata". I'm 26 years old and currently living in
Edinburgh (as you may be able to tell from the picture on the right), though I
grew up in the small town of Paignton in Devon. One of my big ambitions in life
is to be a travel writer, and that's what has given rise to this site.
At the moment, writing is very much
a hobby and my real career is science. I've just completed a PhD in
computational chemistry, with my main interest being in the way that we can use computers to
help us to design new drugs. At the moment, I'm on what I guess could be
described as a "career break"; I'm taking some time out to go
travelling. From October 2007 to August 2008 I'll be on a round the world trip,
which should be a fantastic experience and will hopefully provide plenty of
material for future writing. After my round the world trip, I'm intending to resume the chemistry.
Away from work my main hobbies are
travel (as you may have guessed), football, swimming
and hiking. I'm also currently running a project in which I'm looking for 10,000
people to each contribute a single word towards the writing of a book (if you
want to find out more about that, check out the website at
www.iwantaword.com). Below you can see a few pictures that I think do a reasonable job of
illustrating my life. They are, from left to right: playing football in Oxford;
standing on a beach in Valencia, and chilling out while
dressed as popular teen rocker L'il Chris.
