ResourcesOf course, I would argue that "Kilimanjaro: Hakuna Matata" is an excellent resource for anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro. However, I would have to acknowledge that it won't tell you everything you need to know, so on this page I've compiled a list of information sources that I found useful when planning my trip. It is by no means complete, but it should at least give you an idea of where to start looking (for the books, the titles are linked to the respective pages on amazon).
GuidebooksKilimanjaro: The Trekking Guide to Africa's Highest Mountain (Trailblazer Guides) by Henry Stedman We had a copy of this guide book, and it was excellent on the practical details of the trek. Not so good for Kilimanjaro, but useful if your planning to do anything else in Tanzania. We didn't use this, but I imagine it's reasonably similar to the lonely planet guide. Covers Kenya, Uganda Rwanda and Burundi as well as Tanzania. TraveloguesSwahili for the Broken Hearted by Peter Moore Brilliant account of the author's journey from Cape Town to Cairo. Includes a chapter on his attempt to climb Kilimanjaro, which is definitely recommended reading! FictionSnows on Kilimanjaro by Earnest Hemingway Probably the most famous description of Kilimanjaro. Trekking Companies(With the exception of Nature Discovery, I can't comment on the quality of these operators: the others have been selected from the list of operators approved by the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project) Nature Discovery (The company we used)
